Davies designs chosen for Tokyo Exhibition
ICEX and The Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo have organised a seminar and exhibition on Spanish product design aimed at Japanese industry consultants and professional members of the contract sector. Entitled Cutting Edge — Avant-garde Spanish Interior Design, the show will take place from 9 to 11 December at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo, and will display designs by such companies as Gandia Blasco, Grupo B Lux, Kriskadecor, Marset, Naturtex, Peronda and Sancal. These products were selected by the prestigious Japanese architecture and interior design studios Jin Kuramoto Studio, Yota Kakuda Design, Tokolo and Makeshift. Japanese studio Soy Labo and Spanish outfit Stone Designs (which also designed the exhibition space) liaised with these studios. During the seminar — on December 9 — there’ll be lectures about the evolution and current situation of Spanish design worldwide and how it’s used by the Japanese design community. Notable lectures will include an authoritative talk by renowned architect Wataru Fujie, chief architect at Toyo Ito & Associates, who will introduce the project Hotel Porta Fira Barcelona to the audience. A catalogue has been published to accompany the event, while the microsite www.cuttingedge-spain.com will feature the Japanese studios collaborating in this event and the Spanish companies providing the pieces for the exhibition.
